Job Purpose

To provide solutions designs, at both a high and a detailed level, for solutions for changes, projects and programmes, taking account of project requirements and ensuring fit in the technical & corporate strategy and consistency with enterprise architecture

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop end to end technical solutions to meet agreed requirements as part of a change, project or a programme
  • Ensure that the designs meet the functional and non-functional requirements
  • Help identify any missing requirements, particularly non-functional requirements
  • Ensure that designs are consistent with Halfords’ Information Security standards and processes and technical & corporate strategy
  • Ensure that the designs support the relevant application roadmaps and Halfords’ enterprise architecture plans
  • Articulate these designs in HLDs (High Level Designs) and DDs (Detailed Designs)
  • Articulate appropriate quality measures as part of the HLDs and DDs
  • Represent the design through the appropriate corporate governance process
  • Provide relevant input into project risk and issue registers based on the design
  • Provide technical consultancy for project and programme managers as part of the design and development of new solutions
  • Support the testing and support teams in the production of their relevant artefacts and processes
  • Work closely with the business analysis team to ensure that the HLDs and DDs are tracked on the relevant Requirements Traceability Matrices.
  • Ownership of the integration of third party designs into Halfords’ designs.
  • Keep up to date with modern technology trends

Key Skills/Experience

  • Solutions Design, Architecture or Systems Analysis experience
  • Experience in producing High Level and/or Detailed Designs for projects, changes and programmes
  • Some experience of requirements management, process mapping and context diagrams
  • Knowledge of TOGAF
  • Good oral, influencing and written communication skills
  • Ability to challenge
  • Collaborative and a co-operative working style
  • Builds and maintains effective working relationships with peers and senior colleagues
  • Has a hands-on approach, is delivery focused with an emphasis on practical results
  • Able to rationalise potential issues and provide solutions
  • Can prioritise and plan effectively
  • Can multi-task and is highly organised
  • Good working knowledge of project lifecycle, techniques and methodologies
  • Working knowledge of benefits management and business changes
