The role

As a UX Researcher you thrive on conducting strategic and tactical research to uncover deep insights into customer needs, behaviours, and pain points.  You ensure that a user-centric and data-driven approach is at the core of the design lifecycle.

You’re a collaborator who enjoys working with stakeholders, and sharing key insights from your research to help inform design decisions at all levels of the business.

This is an exciting opportunity to make your mark in a newly created role within the department, where you will work closely with the wider UX team on cutting-edge projects that will significantly improve our customer journeys and experiences.

Key responsibilities

  • Collaborate with UX/UI Designers, Product Managers, and other stakeholders to deliver actionable insights that drive customer-centric solutions.
  • Conduct user research activities, including usability testing, customer interviews, surveys, and journey mapping, to identify pain points and opportunities.
  • Lead discovery research for high-impact projects, ensuring research findings inform design and product decisions.
  • Benchmark key customer journeys against competitors using established UX KPIs to identify improvement areas.
  • Oversee and optimise the use of the user testing platform, ensuring high-quality research outputs and increased efficiency.
  • Maintain and enhance research methodologies, ensuring best practices are followed to provide reliable and scalable insights.
  • Develop and manage a central repository of research findings, enabling knowledge sharing and long-term strategic planning.
  • Accurately report research activities and findings, keeping stakeholders informed of insights and their impact on product and design decisions.
  • Advocate for the importance of user research across the business, influencing teams to adopt a research-led approach to digital experience design.
  • Contribute to collaborative team processes, such as sprint planning and design critiques, ensuring research is integrated throughout the UX/UI process.

About you

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Design, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a UX Researcher or similar role, with a strong portfolio showcasing research projects and methodologies.
  • Expertise in qualitative and quantitative research methods, including usability testing, surveys, ethnographic studies, and A/B testing.

  • Proficiency in research tools such as UserZoom, UserTesting, Content Square, Google Analytics, or similar.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and translate findings into actionable insights.
  • Experience collaborating closely with design and product teams.
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills to present research findings effectively to stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple research projects, balancing short-term tactical testing with long-term strategic research initiatives.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and best practices is a plus.
  • Up-to-date understanding of industry trends, UX research methodologies, and emerging technologies.

Reward & benefits

  • A fair and competitive salary evaluated against market data, annual discretionary bonus scheme, pension, life assurance, 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays and enhanced family leave.
  • Commitment and dedication to your ongoing personal and professional development. We help you to own and grow your potential so you can be at your best in your current role and to support your future career aspirations.
  • We offer hybrid working with a blend of working in our Support Centre and from home.
  • You will have access to a wealth of employee discounts across the Halfords suite of products and services.
  • Wellbeing and inclusion are at the heart of our colleague experience. We offer resources and ongoing support to enhance your wellbeing at work and active Colleague Networks supporting inclusion initiatives across Halfords.
